Based on the work of Gérard Vergnaud (1981, 1990, 1995), and particularly on the notion of a homomorphism between reality and its representations, this modelling systematically takes into account the material, mental, and cultural triangulation of objects (Bunge 1983) ; the spontaneous and scientific duality of conceptualisation (Vygotsky 1934) ; the pragmatic and intellectual duality of validation (Balacheff 1988) ; and finally, in crosscutting fashion, the part played by semiotic registers in scientific learning (Duval 1995). Arising from our work in the didactics of mathematics (Lerouge 1992), this notion gives rise to an interdidactic development between mathematics and physics (Malafosse 1999) according to which a framework of rationality is seen as a personal or cultural window for apprehending the ’space of realityâ ? .
