Résumé

Cet article s’intéresse à la question de la conceptualisation de la convergence de suites numériques et aux exigences qu’elle requiert. L’étude de la complexité du processus cognitif lié à la limite de suite a depuis longtemps fait l’objet de travaux de recherche en didactique des mathématiques. Nous ambitionnons d’élargir davantage les investigations des situations de classes ordinaires et de montrer comment le contexte institutionnel conditionne le développement d’un tel processus. Cette étude devra nous conduire à une meilleure définition de ce qui reste à investir dans un projet d’élaboration d’alternatives à ces situations. En nous basant sur la structuration des milieux de la TSD, nous illustrons notre outil méthodologique d’analyse de situations de classes ordinaires que nous complétons par des critères d’analyse qui permettent de penser la distinction entre le concept mathématique formellement défini et le processus cognitif qui accompagne son édification. Le contexte expérimental est nourri par les observations d’une classe ordinaire en fin de secondaire, en amont et en aval de la convergence formelle.

Abstract
A study on the evolution of students’ images of sequence convergence
This article focuses on the conceptualization of the convergence of a sequence of numbers, and on the challenges it presents. Many studies have been conducted on the complexity of the cognitive process by which the formal definition of sequence convergence is acquired. Furthermore, relatively few studies investigate the potency of specially designed problems that could be used to overcome students’ difficulties, and for them to achieve a better grasp of the formal notion of limit of a sequence. In this paper, we pay attention to how teacher management of students’ work involves their understanding of sequence convergence. Our ultimate goal is to identify relevant indicators that could help designing more alternative approaches. Our methodological tool for analyzing regular lessons is based on the TDS construct of the Milieu; the definition of this tool is strengthened by the use of the concept image/concept definition framework. The experimental context comes from a survey conducted with 17/18 – years old scientific track students.

Resumen
Este artículo se centra en la cuestión de la conceptualización de la convergencia de las sucesiones numéricas y en las exigencias que estas requieren. El estudio de la complejidad del proceso cognitivo relacionado con el límite de sucesiones ha sido objeto de estudio en didáctica durante mucho tiempo. Nos proponemos ampliar el marco de las investigaciones a situaciones de clase habituales mostrando cómo la realidad institucional condiciona el desarrollo de un proceso de este tipo. Este estudio permite delimitar mejor lo que quedaría pendiente en un proyecto de elaboración de alternativas a estas situaciones. Basándonos en la estructuración del medio de la TSD, ilustramos nuestra herramienta metodológica para el análisis de situaciones en clases de secundaria, completándola con criterios analíticos que permiten vislumbrar la distinción entre el concepto matemático definido formalmente y el proceso cognitivo que acompaña su construcción. El contexto experimental se nutre de las observaciones de una clase de estudiantes de último curso de secundaria, antes y después del estudio de la convergencia formal.
